[Ecchi.. Sorta?]Spirit Hunter: Death Mark

The spookeiest game for this silly ecchi October!

Okay, it wasn’t really scary for me, but it is a proper horror VN at least. Has a spinoff I’ll read at some point when it’s not way to expensive, and the sequel is due out early next year, which also I want to read once it’s half off. The length of the VN is just not equal to the 50$+ cost.

[Ecchi… Not Really]Rewrite+

Yeah, Rewrite isn’t really horror. It does have monsters, searching for ghosts and the school’s seven secrets and even an apocalypse or two, but it’s not horror. It’s a comedy that slips into shounen action with a strong environmentalism message.

But before I talk about Key’s attempt at hiring a bunch of famous writers to make something good instead of using their own, I should talk about that + in the title, and how silly they append that to the English version.

Rewrite+ is suppose to be the updated versions of Rewrite, Key’s 6th main project. It had 3 things that made it different then the standard release. The first one, and the only one they kept, is the ending was changed to be happier. Not more satisfying, and honestly I didn’t consider the original true ending sad, but just happier. Kinda like they did with Tomoya After where they gutted the point of the story for a happy ending.

The other change to Rewrite itself was a small number of cgs were altered to be more lewd. These were reverted for the Steam release in fear of the game not being releasable with these lewder cgs. I get the logic, but no off site patch or anything. The final change is likely taking the longest time to release because they have to censor the hell out of it to get it on Steam. I of course mean Harvest Festa, Rewrite’s fandisc. Which came packaged with Rewrite+ in Japan, as they were only sold together at first.

I don’t know much about Harvest Festa, other then it’s not a a sequel only fandisc. Not a surprise really, considering the MC becomes a tree in one route. It has an RPG mode and definitely is lewder then the original game. So the delay was likely a combination of translation priority for fandiscs being low, and having to censor the art.

Anyway, that’s not really what I wanted to talk about. Don’t really care to talk about the read itself at length either though I will at least give my general opinions on it. Really I played a Key thing to talk about the real horror in Key’s stuff, their h scenes.

[Ecchi-VN]Date A Live ~Rio Reincarnation~

Yes, Date A Live. It’s not actually horror? Are you sure? Positive?

You’d be right. It’s a cliche harem comedy with some shounen battle bits as it goes. The main character has to date and basically seduce spirits, who are always girls, so that their powers go down and they stop basically exploding entire cities and countries. That last part is the one where this could easily a horror story. Think, if you make the wrong comment during a date, boom! Everyone you know and love is dead.

The first of three Vns in this collection does kind of have that happen. Some of the bad ends are you made the wrong comment, boom. Everyone in town died because you suck with women. That’s not really the focus of the story in any bit of Date A Live, but is a very easy what if of the whole setting.

Also, this is made by Compile Heart/Idea Factory and Sting and in my quest to finish every pervy Compile Heart game I had to read this Vn collection at some point.

[Ecchi]Song of Memories

A Vn with actual ecchi content, with an attached rhythm game you can completely skip. It also has a complete genre shift at route into a post apocalypse zombie thing, kinda.

It got a Switch release four years after its Steam release, and that is probably the better version? I hope it runs better at least. I played the Steam port for this.

As for being a Halloween VN, it’s a mix of drama and romance with some mutant zombies thrown in.

Waifu Mission

Patreon

I didn’t think this would get a post. I played this because I wanted a parody thing, and episode releases that were standalone meant I could finish them. Then it turned out each game had puzzles and unlocks that were based on other cgs being unlocked and then the third game was a clicker and I decided eff it, it gets a post.

This is a parody Vn set. It starts focused and then opens up to a bunch of different anime girls with some big multi verse apocalypse style thing. Episodic, with special editions for paying players.

The art is okay, story seems to want to go somewhere(though I barely bothered with it, I just wanted lewd art when I played this), the gameplay is bleh.
