[Ecchi]Kotodama: 7 Mysteries of Fujisawa

This is one of those weird games I know of, but have been kind of dodging. This was on a good sale, is short, and I wanted a match 3/puzzle game before the end of the year.

Kotodama is a match 3 puzzle game where the characters(5 girls, 1 guy) lose clothing as you win. It’s also a Groundhog Day esque mystery. Eventually.

[Ecchi.. Sorta?]Spirit Hunter: Death Mark

The spookeiest game for this silly ecchi October!

Okay, it wasn’t really scary for me, but it is a proper horror VN at least. Has a spinoff I’ll read at some point when it’s not way to expensive, and the sequel is due out early next year, which also I want to read once it’s half off. The length of the VN is just not equal to the 50$+ cost.

[Ecchi… Not Really]Rewrite+

Yeah, Rewrite isn’t really horror. It does have monsters, searching for ghosts and the school’s seven secrets and even an apocalypse or two, but it’s not horror. It’s a comedy that slips into shounen action with a strong environmentalism message.

But before I talk about Key’s attempt at hiring a bunch of famous writers to make something good instead of using their own, I should talk about that + in the title, and how silly they append that to the English version.

Rewrite+ is suppose to be the updated versions of Rewrite, Key’s 6th main project. It had 3 things that made it different then the standard release. The first one, and the only one they kept, is the ending was changed to be happier. Not more satisfying, and honestly I didn’t consider the original true ending sad, but just happier. Kinda like they did with Tomoya After where they gutted the point of the story for a happy ending.

The other change to Rewrite itself was a small number of cgs were altered to be more lewd. These were reverted for the Steam release in fear of the game not being releasable with these lewder cgs. I get the logic, but no off site patch or anything. The final change is likely taking the longest time to release because they have to censor the hell out of it to get it on Steam. I of course mean Harvest Festa, Rewrite’s fandisc. Which came packaged with Rewrite+ in Japan, as they were only sold together at first.

I don’t know much about Harvest Festa, other then it’s not a a sequel only fandisc. Not a surprise really, considering the MC becomes a tree in one route. It has an RPG mode and definitely is lewder then the original game. So the delay was likely a combination of translation priority for fandiscs being low, and having to censor the art.

Anyway, that’s not really what I wanted to talk about. Don’t really care to talk about the read itself at length either though I will at least give my general opinions on it. Really I played a Key thing to talk about the real horror in Key’s stuff, their h scenes.

[Ecchi-VN]Date A Live ~Rio Reincarnation~

Yes, Date A Live. It’s not actually horror? Are you sure? Positive?

You’d be right. It’s a cliche harem comedy with some shounen battle bits as it goes. The main character has to date and basically seduce spirits, who are always girls, so that their powers go down and they stop basically exploding entire cities and countries. That last part is the one where this could easily a horror story. Think, if you make the wrong comment during a date, boom! Everyone you know and love is dead.

The first of three Vns in this collection does kind of have that happen. Some of the bad ends are you made the wrong comment, boom. Everyone in town died because you suck with women. That’s not really the focus of the story in any bit of Date A Live, but is a very easy what if of the whole setting.

Also, this is made by Compile Heart/Idea Factory and Sting and in my quest to finish every pervy Compile Heart game I had to read this Vn collection at some point.

[Ecchi VN… kind of]Harakiri! Geisha Girls

This is a VN I wanted to highlight, as it’s likely going to go under the radar for basically everyone. I don’t have a great reason to point this out versus everything else, but this seemed so silly that I had to at least try and give it some attention.

So first, why did I play this? The title for one. Translated to what an English speaker would understand, the title is “Stomach cutter! Hostess Girls” which is an interesting word combination. I immediately thought it was some project by some other weeb stringing words together, or maybe something like Doki Doki where the creator kind doesn’t care for the medium and just wanted in. Both wrong.

Turns out the game is made by Frontier Works, a legitimate Japanese company. No idea what company that is? Not surprising, this is not only their first western release, it’s their first boy x girl release period, but not their first release. This is their fifth one. Their first was a bl game. The next three were otome projects with some help from Otomate. For a Japanese company in the otaku space, this is really weird. You don’t usually want to change audiences for each project, you never get a footing in any group that way and is basically a good way to go bankrupt.

That’s max bust size, and the fourth or fifth “lewdest” image in the game.

Anyway, I then looked at the VNDB page and it didn’t have an age rating. It came out that day so I went to Steam and saw “Size-adjustable breasts: Each character comes in a range of 4 sizes.” and decided that whether it was porn or not, I at least had to give it a try. It even had L2D so it was worth the 10$ price to at least see what it had. I always want to find ecchi focused VNs, as they are really rare.

[Ecchi]Summer Pockets: Reflection Blue

What if Key decided to do a best of all their route ideas and writing stuff, and combined into a VN themed around summer and memories? That’s Summer Pockets. Reflection Blue adds like 4 routes to that, so it’s the best way to experience Key. In my opinion.

Miss Naughty Mind

Some would say this is just a VN, but Key’s later stuff have a few too many game elements, optional though they may be, for me to just lump them with plain visual novels. Kinda like how Kara no Shoujo or Hollow Ataraxia got posts, so do the later Key stuff deserve full dedicated posts. But yeah, it is a VN.

Business of Loving V.8

H Scene Count- 16 per girl or so… more then 50?

Created by ,

Length- A few hours. 4-ish?

A very obvious attempt at Summertime Saga with a less polished artstyle, but more adult girl focus and bigger curves. I played this a year or so ago, and honestly when I went back it had only done like two more updates.

This is here more because of how poorly put together it is. It is very easy for things to break or content to get locked behind something else you did, so I figured after I ran through it between VN’s that I would throw up some saves for others.

[VN]Sakuranomori Dreamers, My Issues

So I finished reading the weird action trhiller from moonstone, the company that brought us Princess Evangile and Lunatics. Aka, an action thriller from a generic moege company. And boy, does it have issues. Honestly, reading it the story is alright, I have no major issues with the core ideas. The surrounding details are horrible though. Enough that I wanted to complain a bit, if only to cement the thoughts.

In order, I’m going to talk about how Mahoro’s character could be removed without hurting anything, how most of the routes are pointless, and finally why the timing of everything is just bad. Or more like, makes no sense.

VN Page Reorganized and categories explained

So around a year ago I made a page to list VN saves because a few people had asked for them and I figured why not if I had them anyway. That list has become something of a mess and I decided to reorganize it a bit and then a thought hit me, do people who visit here have any idea what the title names mean? Yuri and yaoi, I figure most fans know well enough. But do people know what the difference between moege, charage, or plotge are? At the same time I’ll point out a few of the common traits of the genres.

Konosora or If My Heart Had Wings

So recently every VN I’ve read has left me wanting to rant or praise specific things in it. Whether it’s how a VN does an archetype I hate, or why a VN makes a perfect example for why a specific trope of Japanese VN’s can be great or just ruin the entire thing. But since this is a game blog I’ve avoided talking about any of them outside of those almost game VN’s I’ve thrown up, like Kara no Shojo. But even with those, I’ve never talked about the VN in any real depth, instead just going over the usual synopsis with a gameplay overview.

Reading Konosora(the fixed version, not the one on Steam. Don’t buy that one.), I found I had something I wanted to say about just about every route. So I figured, why not? Let’s rant. Honestly I should just go to forums and talk about this kind of stuff but meh. I’d prefer to just throw something up when the save goes up.

I’ll avoid spoiling the big moments and such. I’m more focusing on specific issues or good ideas I liked and wanted to point at and say “Isn’t that cool/horrible/stupid?” This isn’t a review, consider it more of a rant going heroine route by heroine route.
